The loss of two fingers from my right hand might not appear to be a big issue compared with other problems that people with loss of an arm or a leg might experience but as a physical therapist and yoga instructor it certainly made my work much more challenging.

It took me a while to decide to have prosthetic fingers fitted but after looking at the YouTube results I felt that the effort was worthwhile on a practical and psychological level.

The results are impressive. On my first night out to supper with friends I had to eventually point out my newly acquired fingers as no-one had noticed them.

I even had to point them out to the physiotherapist who had treated me after the accident as she could not work out how I had suddenly acquired two new fingers.

But on a more practical level they protect the stubs which are still very sensitive and this helps a great deal
