Karen Bath – A New Lease of Life
Karen came to the Ledbrook Clinic after years of being continually frustrated by the treatment she received at the NHS. She suffered a spinal injury many years ago and she has been a wheelchair user ever since. She wears a Knee Ankle Foot Orthosis on one leg, a Hip Spica on the other leg and a neck brace.
The NHS has been increasingly unable to supply her with the better quality orthoses she needs to lead a more independent life.
After a full consultation with the Orthotist, John Young, at the Ledbrook Clinic, she was cast and measured for a lightweight KAFO and hip spica. Karen was able to choose the transfer for her hip spica and KAFO and also the leather to match the laminate.
At her review appointment a few weeks later, Karen told us her orthoses had given her and dramatically increased her independence. We will continue to review her progress.
